The MDRD Study 1999 and 2006 equations have been successfully implemented for eGFR reporting on a large scale in North America, Europe and Australia.  The CKD-EPI 2009 creatinine equation is more accurate than the MDRD Study equation for GFR estimation and risk prediction and provides lower prevalence estimates for decreased eGFR. It has replaced the MDRD Study equation for GFR reporting in France and Australia and by two largest clinical laboratory service providers in the United States, Quest and LabCorp, and can be carried out by all clinical laboratories.

Countries and laboratories that are using the CKD-EPI equation

  • France HAS, French National Authority for Health (Haute Autorité de Santé) CKD-EPI Creatinine
  • Germany Labor Limbach CKD-EPI Creatinine
  • Singapore, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore
  • New Zealand, Pathlab and Aoetea Pathology
